Meet cookbook author and editor Fina Scroppo.
With a wallop of experience and a big dose of passion, Fina is teaching the world how to cook “healthy” Italian food without compromising taste. Since she was tall enough to stand over the stove, Fina has been making homemade tomato sauce and meatballs, and learning to spin her own homemade pasta sheets for her mom’s divine lasagna. As a busy mom, passionate cook and lifestyle editor, she has always leaned on what she knows best – Italian cooking – to deliver wholesome, nutritious meals to her family and friends.
Award-winning writer and editor Fina Scroppo is author of the new cookbook The Healthy Italian: Cooking for the Love of Food and Family, widely available throughout North American book/grocery retailers and online, including Amazon.ca, Amazon.com, Chapters.ca and BarnesandNoble.com. Her recipes and cooking prowess have been featured on numerous TV shows, radio programs, and in magazines and newspapers across the country. For a complete list, click here. The book has drawn rave responses from reviewers and fans alike for its vibrant pages, easy cooking techniques, health tips, personal stories and, of course, mouth-watering recipes. During her cooking demos, she loves to engage the audience by sharing heartwarming accounts of being in the kitchen. In fact, it’s Fina’s approachable style to cooking and convenient meal-planning that has made her a favourite in everyday kitchens.
Over the past 20 years, she’s enjoyed working with some of the most successful cookbook authors, including Janet and Greta Podleski (The Looneyspoons Collection and Eat, Shrink & Be Merry!) and produced special-interest cooking publications that have featured the works of celebrity chefs like Massimo Capra, Emily Richards, Anna Olson, Christine Cushing, Yolanda Gampp, Chuck Hughes, Andrea Nicholson and Roger Mooking. But it’s decades of cooking alongside her nonna, mother and father that have inspired her in the kitchen, nurtured a passion for wholesome meal preparation and fostered a determination to share it with others.
Fina says she’s dedicated to helping families not only get meals on the table with ease, but also gather around the kitchen counter and cook for the love of food and family. She recently co-founded a youth skills-based cooking program called The Happy Kitchen (see the blog for more).
